Would like to remind you that President Obama Delivers a Message to West Africans on Ebola on Sep 2, 2014.
In a video address, President Obama speaks to the people of West Africa regarding America’s support in combating the Ebola outbreak. Obama also mentioned that Ebola is not airborne disease.
A lot of articles could be found online that Ebola virus may have been able to spread through the air between infected pigs and monkeys . Scientists suggest of possible transmission from pigs to people via air, but far from conclusive.
And Now Obama decided to act
President Obama has said that the United States military will begin aiding the response to an outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa that has claimed the lives of at least 2,100 people in five countries.
In an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Obama said the epidemic was a “national security priority” and added that the military would be involved in setting up isolation units and other equipment, as well as providing security for public health workers from around the world.
President Obama repeats again that American should not be concerned about the prospects of contagion here in US short term, because this is not airborne disease.
If we don’t make that effort now and this spreads , than the virus could conceivably spread beyond West Africa, mutating and becoming more easily transmissible in the process, “and then it could become a serious danger to the United States.”
Yes, now you will take it serious: Ebola has up to an 18% chance of coming to the US. But don’t panic.
Mutating and becoming more easily transmissible?
A study in the journal Science, released last week, shows that the Ebola strain spreading across Western Africa has undergone a surprisingly high amount of genetic drift during the current outbreak. Experts say the mutations could eventually make the virus harder to diagnose and perhaps treat with a new therapeutic, should one come along.
